The Council are asking everyone to get out and enjoy the parks and open spaces across the borough this Love Parks Week.
Organised by Keep Britain Tidy, the event highlights the wonderful nature that is right on your doorstep. Running from 24 July to 2 August, this is annual celebration of parks and green spaces, the people who care for them and the huge benefits they bring to our communities and environments.
Events will be held in People’s Park in Grimsby and Homestead Park in Immingham with plenty of family fun to be had throughout the days. From a special visit from the Gruffalo in Immingham to a tour of the Floral Hall in Grimsby – there’s more than just trees and grass.
When used frequently, parks provide over £34 billion in health and wellbeing benefits annually and save the NHS over £111 million every year in reduced GP visits alone.
Make sure not to miss out on the events going on across North East Lincolnshire and get the dates in your diary:
- Thursday, 30 July – People’s Park, Grimsby, 10am-2pm
- Friday, 31 July – Homestead Park, Immingham, 10am-2pm
Councillor Bob Callison, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Energy Security, said: “This is a brilliant initiative. Our parks and open spaces are so underrated and deserve to be shouted about as much as possible.
“I implore as many people as possible to get down to these events and enjoy what is on offer – I’m sure you won’t regret it!”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, added: “Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Parks campaign is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate, appreciate and recognise the value of their park and green space – and to talk about what that green space means for them and their communities.
“Hundreds of park managers and ‘friends of’ volunteer groups across England are throwing open their gates to their communities, hosting a diverse range of inclusive events and it’s wonderful to hear about [enter park or land manager’s name’s] plans.
“Parks are essential for our wellbeing and the health of our environment, and we know that spending time in them offers opportunities for exercise, social connection and stress reduction.
“The Love Parks campaign would not be possible without the backing of our local authority partners, including North East Lincolnshire Council, park professionals and landowners.”
