The popular Skip It scheme is returning to a site near you!
From microwaves to chairs – residents will be able to get rid of all sorts of rubbish completely free. It aims to help those who may struggle to get to the tip by providing a temporary disposal site for the day and help people learn how doing their bit can make for a better North East Lincolnshire.
Originally launched in 2018, the project was a huge success with many residents getting the chance to dispose of those unwanted items including garden clippings, small electrical items, recycling, mattresses and much more. The return of the scheme came about following proposed amendments to the budget in February this year.
These temporary sites will be up and running from 8.30am to 3pm in five different locations in the coming months. People visiting the collection points will find two large skips, two vans for white goods (such as fridges and freezers), mattresses, furniture and a vehicle for garden waste.
Council officers will also be there to talk about fly-tipping and how you can make sure your extra waste is disposed of correctly. One simple way is by visiting the Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) or using the Bulky Waste scheme offered by the Council.

The first event will be held on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at Duke of York Gardens, Corporation Road, Grimsby – with more events to follow!
Residents can walk on to the site with their waste or bring it in a suitable vehicle. Cars and vans are allowed but any trade vans or trade waste will not be accepted.
It’s essential that people taking waste and recycling to the Skip It collection points follow the site instructions and listen to instructions from staff to keep safe.
What can and can’t be brought to the Skip It event:
Please bring:
- White goods (electrical appliances)
- General household waste
- Large household items such as furniture/mattresses – please tape over any rips on sofas
- Garden waste
- Electrical items
- Wood
- Metal
- Cardboard
- “Bring & Buy” reusable items – these are items that can be taken back to Grimsby CRC to be sold to raise money for local charities
Do not bring:
- Asbestos
- Soil and rubble
- Paints
- Oils
- Tyres
- Fuels
- Clinical/Hazardous waste
- Car batteries
- Car parts
- Plasterboard
- Gas bottles
- Liquids
- Trade waste
- Waste from Builders vehicles
Councillor Darren Mayne, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Recycling and Energy, said: “This is great news for the borough.
“It gives everyone a chance to dispose of their unwanted rubbish without it ending up as fly-tipping. Everyone has a responsibility to get rid of their waste suitably and we’re hoping this can go some way to helping that.”
He added: “It’s important people respect the rules of the site and only bring waste that will be accepted on the day.
