Photography competition launched to showcase people and places around North East Lincolnshire
Are you a budding or keen photographer, with a passion for your local place?
We are inviting people of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels to share photographs of the stories, moments and places that matter to them. Whether you are an experienced photographer, a student, part of a community group, or someone who simply enjoys taking photographs on your phone, we would love to see your work.
Selected images will be displayed in an exhibition at Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre as part of The National Lottery Heritage Fund Heritage Places funding later this year.
The theme of the exhibition is “People, places and spaces of North East Lincolnshire”, and celebrating North East Lincolnshire through the eyes of the people who know it best, residents, and visitors, who work, live or visit here.
Whether it’s a fantastic view of our beach in Cleethorpes, or a picture of someone who has inspired you in North East Lincolnshire, we want to see them all! For all the details and how to submit your photos, please visit: Open Photography Exhibition – Create North East Lincolnshire.
Need inspiration for taking that perfect photo? We’ve got you covered with a photo workshop and walk opportunity at Festival of the Sea on Saturday 20 June in Grimsby town centre. Join photographer Wes Foster for an exploration of Grimsby’s dockside, noticing the details of a place that’s been shaped by the sea, industry and time, and finding new ways to see and record it. To book a place on the workshop, please visit: Imag(in)ing Space Tickets, Saturday, June 20 • 2 PM – 4 PM | Eventbrite
The open call is led by Abbie Jennings, an award-winning freelance photographer whose work explores people, places and personal nostalgia. Visit www.abbiejennings.co.uk for more about her previous work.
Abbie Jennings: “I’m really excited about this project and being able to help local people explore their towns, and their relationships with others through photography. I love working with people and developing their own abilities too.”
Abbie is inviting people to find out more or get help in the submission process at drop-in sessions during the open call. The first one takes place at the Fishing Heritage Centre on 11 June 2026 between 11am and 3pm. Future drop-in sessions to meet with Abbie are:
- Tuesday 30 June at Cleethorpes Library, 9am – 1pm
- Tuesday 7 July at Waltham Library, 1:30pm – 4:30pm
- Tuesday 14 July at Immingham Library, 1pm – 4pm
