This year’s pavement slurry seal treatment programme began on Monday 27 July and is expected to be completed by Friday 4 September, subject to weather conditions.
The work involves applying a protective slurry seal treatment to pavements to repair minor defects, improve the walking surface and help prevent water damage. The treatment helps extend the life of pavements and provides a smoother, more even surface for pedestrians.
Slurry surfacing is a cold applied process using a mix of bitumen emulsion, selected aggregates, water and an additive to control the speed of setting. Once laid, the treatment dries quickly and pavements can usually be reopened within 20 to 30 minutes of application, depending on weather conditions. As the works are weather dependent, dates may be subject to change.
Pavement closures
To ensure the safety of both workers and pedestrians, the affected pavement will be closed on the day of the works between 7.30am and 6pm.
Although works may not take the full day to complete, closures will remain in place until the treatment has fully dried and it is safe for public use. The pavement will then be reopened as soon as possible.
Every effort will be made to maintain access to properties whilst works are being carried out, however, there may be short periods when access is restricted. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Advance warning signs will be displayed on site ahead of the works and will confirm the proposed treatment date.
