Pothole prevention works to be discussed as part of Cabinet meeting next week

Pothole prevention works are rising up the agenda and are set to be discussed at the Cabinet’s meeting next week.  

Key on the list is an allocation of funding being set aside to specifically address trials of innovative technology and materials and new ways of working to deal with potholes faster. 

Additionally, there is £9.49m allocated within capital projects for highway preventative maintenance and resurfacing. 

The 2026/2027 Highways and transport capital programme covers lots of areas including borough-wide programmes of active travel, to improve walking and cycling options and promoting the use of public transport (£1.6m), along with road safety and traffic management works (£1.4m).  

There are also additional programmes listed, including a borough-wide traffic signals refurbishment programme (£0.6m), and a new system for street lighting so faults can be found and sorted quickly.  

The full Highways and Transport capital programme for 2026-27 totals £17.4m, predominantly grant funding from Central Government and an NELC allocation.
