Max Spielmann and H Samuel have both confirmed they will continue to trade from Freshney Place following the agreement of new leases, reinforcing their long-term commitment to Grimsby.
Along with others such as Clarks, Trespass and The Perfume Shop who also committed to the location earlier this year, the retailers will continue to trade from the centre with work progressing on the £50 million transformation of Freshney Place.
The moves represent another step in the North East Lincolnshire Council owned centre’s continued evolution. Set to establish the destination as a major retail and leisure hub for the region, the extensive redevelopment, the largest investment of its kind in Grimsby, will introduce a new cinema, leisure offering, a redesigned market area, as well as food and beverage – Nando’s and Starbucks have already committed to the scheme with more tenant announcements expected.
Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, Cllr Oliver Freeston, said: “I’m pleased to see that long-term national brand tenants are renewing once more with Freshney Place, providing core services for our local residents.”
Centre manager, Elliott Andrews said: “We’re delighted that H Samuel and Max Spielmann will remain at Freshney Place and continue to be part of its future. The centre is evolving into an exciting new destination for the town, and it’s encouraging to see recognised national retailers continuing to invest in that vision alongside us.”
The centre is currently operating at 95% occupancy, highlighting strong retailer confidence ahead of the leisure extension’s completion in 2027.
Jason Sargent, Senior Asset Manager at Queensberry Real Estate, which manages the centre on behalf of owners North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Occupancy is almost full, with Freshney Place continuing to attract interest from both major national names and independent operators. The continued presence of these popular, high street names reflects the growing confidence surrounding the town centre, and we look forward to announcing further positive developments soon.”
