The Government has indicated that Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) is being paused and reviewed.
In July, we were advised that there would be no changes to North East Lincolnshire boundaries or the work of the local authority.
However, plans for a number of areas, including those put forward by North East Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire, will be paused while the review is undertaken.
This is an unexpected announcement from the Government, which we know will prompt many questions from all stakeholders across North East Lincolnshire. We are seeking further information.
In an announcement yesterday in the House of Commons, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, said that the review follows updated legal advice provided to ministers.
The Government has stated that the purpose of the rapid review is to make sure that the reorganisation process is “robust and aligns with the new Government’s plans to rewire the state”.
At this stage, we do not have any further detail on whether, or if, there will be any changes for our area. Once we have further information we will issue this.
