Over a hundred people have been able to get rid of their unwanted beds, microwaves, fences and everything in between thanks to the return of the Skip It scheme.
First launched in 2018, the project is aimed at improving residents recycling and making it easier to get rid of rubbish for those who can’t get to the tip. Now, thanks to a budget amendment at Full Council which received unanimous cross political group support, it’s back again!
The first event was held at Duke of York Gardens, Corporation Road, Grimsby with 184 visits throughout the day. Groups brought all sorts including old lamps, garden waste and even an old canoe!
If you missed your chance to get rid of your unwanted items, don’t worry – there are more events happening every week until the middle of November (weather dependent).
Have a look at the latest confirmed dates below and keep an eye out on the Council’s social media to get the latest news on Skip It:
- Tuesday, October 13 – Garibaldi Street car park, Grimsby, DN32 7DU
- Tuesday, October 20 – car park near Fusion and Clee Fields, Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, DN32 9SW

Councillor Darren Mayne, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Recycling and Energy, said: “This was an absolute success.
“Hundreds of people came and got rid of rubbish that may well have otherwise been stuck in their house, garden or may have possibly become fly-tipping.
“If you have items that you don’t want anymore and live close to one of the events, make sure to pop down and find out what it’s all about.”
