Concessionary bus pass fares to be reintroduced

From Monday 15 June, the fee for concessionary bus pass holders travelling before 9:30am, Monday to Friday, will be reintroduced.

The temporary relaxation of the fee was introduced at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, aimed at supporting the elderly and vulnerable residents in response to supermarkets opening earlier and allowing them to get to them.

Following changes to Government guidance, and more people returning to work, it is expected that demand for public transport will increase.

The withdrawal of free travel during these times will help to manage demand, helping key workers who need to use public transport do so whilst social distancing.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “I would like to thank Stagecoach East Midlands for their support with the relaxation of concessionary fares in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. In line with many other authorities across the area, we are now at a stage where the reintroduction of this fee for travelling before 9:30am is required.

“As we move to the ‘new normal’, it is essential that those returning to work are not delayed due to reduced capacity on the buses whilst social distancing measures are in place.”
