North East Lincolnshire Council has today (Tuesday 14 July) handed over 56 drawings from local children to Care Plus Group to put up inside a new care facility.
Back when lockdown began, the council asked children from across the borough to come together to decorate Cambridge Park Care Home.
The home, which was purchased by the Care Plus Group in January 2020, was rapidly refurbished to help support local health and care services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The facility provides both short term rehabilitation and reablement services to those patients who need additional support after leaving hospital and before being discharged home. It also provides care for those needing it to prevent hospital admission where appropriate.
The idea for the drawings stemmed from local mum and council employee, Jodie Gibbons, as she joined in the ‘rainbow trail’, which sees children putting pictures of rainbows in the windows of their home.
Jodie said: “A huge thank you to those that have sent their artwork for Cambridge Park. Every piece is absolutely amazing. I’m sure they will be loved by those that see them.
“We’re lucky to live in a place where we have some wonderful community spirit already, but I just thought this was a good opportunity to build on it even further during a difficult time.
“The drawings will help to spread kindness and happiness with all the bright colours. This was a great way for families to be creative at home, whilst having a positive impact on the wider community.”
Councillor Ian Lindley, portfolio holder for children, education and young people at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “It’s fantastic that children have been getting creative throughout a time that has challenged many people.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to you for sending us your drawings. We’re thrilled to be able to hand them over to Care Plus Group to proudly display them inside the building for others to enjoy.”
Councillor Margaret Cracknell, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adult social care, added: “The people of North East Lincolnshire have really shown how communities can come together and support each other – from volunteers helping the self-isolating and vulnerable, to our local NHS and key workers who have kept things moving throughout a difficult time. These drawings are just another example of togetherness and it’ll be wonderful to have them up inside Cambridge Park.”
Jane Miller, Chief Executive of Care Plus Group, said: “This is a lovely way for the local community to help make Cambridge Park a welcoming place for North East Lincolnshire residents and we’re really grateful to all the children who have taken the time to send in a picture.
“It will be lovely to see a wall of bright pictures including colourful rainbows in the centre when we put them up.”
