Road safety improvements to take place across North East Lincolnshire

Improving road safety for school children is a priority as improvement works are carried out at various locations.

Road safety improvement works will start on Monday 27 July and will take six weeks to complete on a rolling programme.

Works will focus on existing dropped kerb crossing points, along with the installation of more where necessary, and bollards to prevent vehicles mounting the pavement outside the entrance of Peter’s C of E Academy in Cambridge Street.

This programme is part of the 2020 Local Transport Delivery Plan, which aims to improve highways for all road users, with a specific focus on creating safer crossing points for school children to access schools and academies.

The works are being carried out under temporary traffic lights and localised traffic management (using cones and barriers) where possible, to minimise disruption to nearby residents and businesses.

They will take place at the following dates and locations:

• Monday 27 July, Brereton Avenue (Brereton Avenue and Lovett Street junction) under temporary traffic lights between 7.30am and 6pm for five days.
• Monday 3 August, Waltham Road (between Linwood Avenue and Dovedale Drive) under temporary traffic lights between 9am and 3.30pm for five days.
• Thursday 6 August, Cambridge Street (between St Peter’s Avenue and Yarra Road) under localised traffic management between 7.30am and 6pm for two days.
• Monday 17 August, Ladysmith Road (between Danes Close and Beverley Close) under temporary traffic lights between 9am and 3.30pm for two weeks.

During the works, every effort will be made to maintain access to properties but there may be short periods of time when this will not be possible. Access for emergency vehicles and bus services will be maintained.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “These works are extremely important in ensuring our roads are safe for all those who use them.

“By improving the existing crossing points, as well as installing additional crossings, we are making sure we have the infrastructure in place to allow children to travel to and from the nearby schools safely and sustainably.”

Residents and businesses affected by the works will receive a letter before works start. The council and ENGIE apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
