A Councillor has expressed his disappointment following an incident in which a public sanitiser station in Cleethorpes was used as an ashtray by a member of the public.

Councillor Callum Procter, portfolio holder for tourism, heritage and culture at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “I’m disappointed to see this happening in our resort.

“Sadly this is not the first instance of a public sanitiser station being used to put out peoples cigarettes.

“These stations are in place for everyone to use to keep themselves safe.

“The virus has not gone away. I ask that people continue to follow the safety guidance – washing hands regularly, maintaining a distance from others, and wearing face coverings when in shops or enclosed spaces. Please make use of the sanitiser stations provided – they are not ashtrays.”

One business owner in Cleethorpes described the incident as being “disrespectful for the community.”
