Brownfield Land Register
All councils in England are required to prepare a Brownfield Land Register. The register provides information, in a standard format, for brownfield land considered suitable and available for housing-led development.
Brownfield land is land which has previously been developed.
The register consists of two parts:
Part 1 – includes all brownfield sites that the Council consider appropriate for residential development.
Part 2 – comprises only those sites in Part 1 where the Council has decided the land would be suitable for a grant of Permission in Principle for housing-led development.
Permission in Principle is designed to separate decision making on ‘in principle’ issues (such as land use, location and amount of development) from matters of technical detail (such as what the buildings will look like. A ‘Technical detail’ consent will be required before development can commence of a site.
We update our Brownfield Land Register every year.
There are currently no sites included in Part 2 of the register. This is because most of the sites on the register already have the benefit of planning permission.
