North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner, ENGIE, are entering the final phase of drainage improvements on Willingham Street in Grimsby.

Works will take place on Tuesday 29 September to resurface sections of carriageway on Willingham Street and Catherine Street. To allow these works to be carried out and protect the workforce, a temporary road closure will be in place between 7am and 5pm.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “I would like to personally thank residents and businesses of Willingham Street and Catherine Street for their ongoing support and patience while we carry out these improvements. Unfortunately, once works started, we identified additional works would be required to the drainage channels and this added to the original programme of works.

“The additional works are now finished, and we are in the position to carry out the final resurfacing and complete the project. These works have provided nearby residents with additional drainage capacity during periods of heavy rainfall and connect into an alternative drainage system with free capacity.

“Flooding has a major impact on those directly affected by it and I would like to thank our partners at the Environment Agency and Anglian Water for supporting the delivery of these improvements and working closely with engineers at ENGIE.”

During the carriageway resurfacing, on-street parking will be temporarily suspended to allow the works to be carried out.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to people’s properties in the work area but there may be short periods of time when this will not be possible. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.

Residents directly affected by the works will be contacted with full details before works start.

The works will be managed and overseen by the council’s partner, ENGIE, with contractor EC Surfacing Ltd carrying out the works.

The council, ENGIE, and EC Surfacing Ltd would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience and assure you that the work will be completed as quickly and safely as possible.
