Works on the first part of improvements to Estate Road 2 are progressing well, with the carriage and footway improvements between Pyewipe roundabout and Estate Road 5 due to be complete on Friday 16 October.

From Monday 19 October, a one-way system will be introduced between Estate Road 5 and Estate Road 6 as the carriageway and footway reconstruction continues.

Initially, road users will be able to access Estate Road 2 from Pyewipe roundabout and enter the one-way system travelling towards Estate Road 8. To leave via Pyewipe roundabout, motorists will be directed to Estate Road 6 and then Estate Road 5. As works progress, the one-way will be swapped to allow the other side of the carriageway to be completed.

The one-way system will be in place for four months. This will be followed by final overnight carriageway resurfacing works, estimated to take four nights to complete. Full details will be shared with affected businesses and stakeholders in January 2021.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “We’re committed to carrying out these vital improvements with minimal disruption to businesses in the area. We are engaging with them regularly and project managers at ENGIE are committed to working with them to overcome potential access issues or concerns as we progress works.

“I would like to thank businesses in the area for their continued support and patience while we carry out this scheme.”

ENGIE are managing and overseeing the scheme with contractor, EC Surfacing Ltd, carrying out the improvements.
