THERE are less than 10 days remaining for European nationals who are resident in North East Lincolnshire to secure settled status.
The EU settlement scheme – the process for EU nationals to formally apply for settled status – closes on 30 June 2021.
Across the UK, over 5.6-million people have applied to the scheme, and in North East Lincolnshire more than 6,000 residents have completed applications.
The majority of the local applications were from people aged 18-65+ from European nations including Sweden, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Poland, Lithuania, Malta and Ireland.
Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “As our relationship with the European Union changes, EU nationals who have lived in our area for a long time are being asked to register to secure settled status to continue to work, study and access all of the benefits of living in the UK.
“In North East Lincolnshire, we have a wonderfully diverse and talented European community and we don’t want to lose that so I would really urge those living in our area who are European nationals to take a look at the EU Settlement Scheme and complete an application for you and your family members.
“I would also take this opportunity to encourage local residents who have friends, colleagues and neighbours from European countries to spread the word.”

The EEA includes the EU countries and also Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
The scheme is free to apply to, and if your application is successful, you will get either settled or pre-settled status.
The deadline to apply to the scheme is 30 June 2021. You must usually have started living in the UK before 31 December 2020.
