A new 12-week free weight management course is being set up to support people in North East Lincolnshire.

With the help of wellbeing coaches trained by Xyla, a national health and wellbeing organisation, the courses will offer support and encouragement to local people who want to lose weight or maintain weight whilst living a healthier and improved lifestyle, both physically and mentally.

These are one-hour group incorporated sessions that will include things like peer support, tracking, progress reviews and goal setting to help with achieving a healthier weight and enabling sustainable behaviour change.

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adult social care at North East Lincolnshire Council, said:

“This programme is an excellent example of community help. Across North East Lincolnshire people will now have access to professionally-trained help with weight loss and weight control, meaning that anyone who struggles with maintaining their weight or wants to lose some weight can get some support.”

To be eligible for the 12-week course, you must be 18+, a resident of North East Lincolnshire and have a BMI of 25 or more, or a lower BMI of 23 or more for adults of South Asian, Chinese and Black ethnicities.

You cannot apply if you are currently on the NDPP, low calorie diet programme, pregnant but not post-partum, have an underlying medical cause for obesity, or have already accessed a tier 2 service in the last year.
