Keep your cycle safe! Lock swap returns for 2022

The popular lock swap scheme is returning from Monday 7 March, with North East Lincolnshire Council, EQUANS and Cycle Hub Lincs hosting.

Lock swap offers cyclists the opportunity to trade in their old bike locks for a new Kryptonite Sold Secure Gold Standard U lock with a 4ft cable for just £10. The locks typically retail at more than £50. 

The project is one of a number of schemes being delivered by the council and EQUANS, supported by the Department for Transport’s Access Fund, helping local people get safely out on their bikes to feel fitter, improve their wellbeing and reduce their carbon footprint.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “We want to help local cyclists keep their bikes safe when leaving them unattended. Making good quality bike locks affordable is a great way we can reduce bike theft and further support residents in joining the sustainable transport revolution.”

Anthony Snell, senior transport officer at EQUANS, added: “This was a hugely popular scheme last year, with 100 residents taking the opportunity to upgrade their cycle locks through lock swap events. We hope doubling the number of gold standard locks available this year will help more people get back on their bikes for 2022.”

You will need to take this ticket (either printed out or on a smartphone) to the Cycle Hub in Grimsby (by the railway station) along with your old lock and £10. Your old lock will then be swapped for the new U-lock.
