This year’s Small Business Saturday is on Saturday 2 December, when it’s time to celebrate and support the local small businesses.

Now in its eleventh year in the UK, the campaign has grown significantly year on year encouraging millions to shop small.

Did you know, North East Lincolnshire has 4,630 small businesses, employing under 50 employees each – that’s 98% of the total businesses located here!

And across the UK, SMEs account for three-fifths (61%) of the employment and around half of turnover in the UK private sector.

For the last ten years, the Small Biz 100 campaign has highlighted local businesses across the UK. Congratulations to Be Great Fitness, which operates across North East Lincolnshire, and Paint Box Ceramic Café based in Cleethorpes who were highlighted this year!

To help support our small businesses, North East Lincolnshire Council and its delivery partner, Equans, is once again supporting this campaign by offering free parking in some council car parks across the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area to encourage people to shop local and support small businesses.

The following list are the car parks which will be free all day on Saturday 2 December:

Grimsby

  • Duchess St
  • Abbey Walk
  • Town Hall
  • Garibaldi Street

Cleethorpes

  • Grant Street

Councillor Philip Jackson, leader and portfolio holder for economy, net zero, skills and housing, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting this campaign again and recognise the great work of our independent businesses across North East Lincolnshire. Our small and local businesses are a vital part of the local economy.”

Small Business Saturday is a yearly campaign that takes place on the first Saturday in December each year. The campaign was created to support, promote and inspire small businesses across the country by encouraging consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their communities.
