As temperatures fall and a chill has taken to the air, North East Lincolnshire Council and its delivery partner Equans are raising awareness about National Energy Action’s Fuel Poverty Awareness Day which takes place on 30th November.

An Energy Officer from Equans will be available on Grimsby Top Town Market between 10.00am – 2.30pm on Thursday 30 November to help you understand more about how to reduce your bills.

It’s been two years since the energy crisis first began and 6.3 million UK households are currently living in fuel poverty.  Locally, latest statistics show that 13,352 households in North East Lincolnshire are living in fuel poverty.

With a variety of schemes available for residents to make energy efficiency improvements to their homes and free gas safety checks for homeowners over the age of 65 who in receipt of means tested benefits, there are lots of options available to help you stay warm this winter.

Householders should also be aware of these top tips to reduce fuel bills:

  • Turn appliances off stand by
  • Install a smart thermostat
  • Turn down your thermostat
  • Buy energy efficient appliances
  • Wash clothes at lower temperatures
  • Insulate your property
  • Take regular meter readings to monitor your usage

Alongside the grants that are currently available, North East Lincolnshire Council’s Home Energy Team are advising residents to check their Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) to see if their properties are adequately insulated to keep them warm this year. This can go along way towards making your property more efficient, which when combined with the tips mentioned above, can have a big impact on your pocket.

Watch out for details about the Big Community Switch offer coming soon. This helps households throughout North East Lincolnshire find better energy deals.
