With the temperature having taken another turn for the chillier, residents are being reminded to be wary of cold callers offering energy efficiency schemes.

North East Lincolnshire Council’s Home Energy team is aware that cold callers have recently been targeting residents promising to make heating their homes more affordable.

Unsolicited callers may offer to carry out energy efficiency checks and remedial works including insulating walls, installing new heating systems or solar panels. With heating costs an ongoing concern, people may find themselves tempted to agree to work which may not be needed or up to standard.

Any resident interested in finding out about energy efficiency measures to improve their home should contact North East Lincolnshire Council’s Home Energy Team who have a number of grants available to help.

A spokesperson for North East Lincolnshire Council said,” We have been made aware that cold callers are currently targeting local residents with offers of cheaper ways to improve reduce their heating costs.

Unfortunately, as is often the case, if the offer sounds too good to be true it probably is. Rather than risking poor quality work that won’t have the promised impact on your bills, get in touch with the Home Energy Team who can give you information about your eligibility for genuine grants delivered by reputable traders.”

North East Lincolnshire Council’s Home Energy Team is on hand to help those struggling to heat their home. Call the team on 01472 326296 Option 5 or visit www.nelincs.gov.uk/home-energy/
