Among runners aiming to complete the Great Grimsby 10k this Sunday will be a team seeking to raise awareness of the importance of foster carers and the difference that they can make to a child’s life.
Foster carers and members of the Council’s team will participate in the race, donning bright orange running shirts and vests with the North East Lincolnshire fostering logo.
The race, which takes place on Sunday 2nd June, will see some 3,000 runners take to the streets. Starting on Doughty Road in Grimsby, runners will head down Abbey Road, then following Bargate through to Scartho Road before moving onto Louth Road and cutting across to Peaks Parkway. Runners will then turn off the Parkway onto Welholme Road before finishing in the resplendent People’s Park.
Speaking ahead of the race, Councillor Margaret Cracknell wished runners the best of luck:
“It’s great to see our passionate social workers and foster carers coming together to run the 10k in an effort to raise awareness of fostering and to encourage others to consider becoming a foster carer.
“Fostering is an incredibly rewarding opportunity. As a foster carer, you truly can change a child’s life.
“If you are over 21 years of age, have a spare room and the legal right to live and work in the UK, then you already meet the basic requirements. If this is you, get in touch with the fostering team.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our runners the best of luck in the 10k!”
Director of Children’s Services at North East Lincolnshire Council, Ann-Marie Matson, is running the 10k in aid of the Horizon Youth Zone.
Ann-Marie said: “I’m really excited to be running the 10k for such a worthwhile cause. The Youth Zone is something that I’ve seen work in other areas of the country, making a profound impact on the lives of young people, and I’m eager to see our very own Horizon Youth Zone have a similar impact here.”

Leading mental health services provider Navigo are official sponsors of the Great Grimsby 10K with Navigo chief executive Simon Beeton running for the Gardiner Hill Foundation.

The Gardiner Hill Foundation was set up to enhance and enrich the lives of people with mental health problems.
As well as promoting good mental health, it works alongside and supplements essential services, helps people to live independently and provides education, training, and employment opportunities.
