A180 Cleethorpe Road Bridge – substantive works complete on the deck this week

General

The works to waterproof and resurface the deck of Cleethorpe Road Bridge, between Lockhill Roundabout and Riby Square, will be substantively completed this week.

However, some overnight full road closures are needed in the coming weeks to complete the works.

Cleethorpe Road Bridge

Between Tuesday 30 July and Thursday 1 August, from 8pm to 6am each night, there will be full closures on the bridge to resurface, include lining and studs on the lanes and remove the traffic management, allowing traffic to flow freely over the bridge.

On Monday, 5 August, overnight from 8pm to 6am, Cleethorpe Road Bridge will be closed to all traffic to install sensors for the traffic lights.

From 6 August to 16 August, there will be temporary traffic lights installed underneath Cleethorpe Road Bridge between Railway St and King Ediward St so that works to the underside of the bridge can be done safely.

A final high friction surface will be applied to Cleethorpe Road Bridge in September, which will require overnight closures in the period from 16 September to 27 September.

Gilbey Road Bridge

Two sets of overnight closures are required to complete above deck works on Gilbey Road Bridge.

Between 12 August to 23 August, there will be overnight closures to add the high friction surface to the road at the west and east ends of the bridge.

Between 9 September to 14 September, there will be overnight closures to complete the bridge expansion joint works.

During all the works to both bridges, localised diversions will be put in place.

Meanwhile, work is continuing underneath both bridges, but this can be done safely without traffic management in place on the bridge decks.

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, Cabinet member for highways, said: “We know that roadworks can be incredibly frustrating for drivers, and I’d like to thank people for their patience while these incredibly necessary works have been going on.”

Works to Alexandra Dock Bridge have been tendered and information about these will be released as soon as a programme is available.

The A180 Bridges waterproofing programme has been funded mainly through the Government’s Department of Transport.
