Freshney Place Shopping Centre has received global recognition for its commitment to green and environmentally friendly practices, winning a Gold Award at the Green World Awards in the Property and Estate Management: Sustainable Development category.

Over recent years Freshney Place has worked diligently to become an increasingly sustainable scheme. At the beginning of this year the centre entered a period of redevelopment, to transform it into a retail and leisure destination for Grimsby. During this transitionary phase, the management team has collaborated closely with service partners and colleagues to ensure environmental standards are prioritised.

The centre was recognised for its intelligent building management, replacement LED lighting and improved water efficiency to reduce consumption in the centre. An additional number of initiatives to support a greener approach were also highlighted including bike storage for staff, rainwater harvesting, wildflower planting and the creation of wildlife habitats.

Elliott Andrews, operations manager at Freshney Place commented; “We’re thrilled to have received recognition for our green efforts. It’s vital that we continue to drive efficiencies as we enter a period of redevelopment and for the future, and we remain committed to reducing our environmental impact in the future.”

The Green World Awards are operated by The Green Organisation, which was founded in 1994 as an international, independent, non-profit, non-political environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
