A new free community space for babies, toddlers and their families opened in Grimsby, giving parents and carers a welcoming place to play, learn and access support. Babyzone, based within the Horizon Youth Zone, held its launch event today and has since begun running its free weekly sessions during term time.

The programme has been created to ensure that no family is left behind in the crucial early years, with a clear focus on reaching those who may be finding things difficult. Babyzone is open to all families with babies and toddlers, offering high‑quality, educational and fun activities designed to help parents feel confident, connected and supported.

The opening event brought together a wide range of local support services. Representatives from the Infant Feeding Team, Family Information Service, local Health Visiting teams and more attended to talk to families and highlight the guidance and resources available to them. Parents were able to meet professionals, ask questions, and find out more about services that can support their child’s early development.

Babyzone’s programme has been designed to “meet families where they are,” removing barriers to participation and helping parents feel seen and supported. Sessions offer a nurturing environment where babies and young children can explore, play and enjoy new experiences, while adults have the opportunity to connect with others and gain confidence in their parenting journey.

Maddie and Georgie, parents who attended with their daughters Eliza (8 months) and Bella (2 years), said:

“It’s great to have somewhere both girls can come and play together. There aren’t many places where classes are free or low‑cost, which makes a huge difference when you’re on maternity leave.

Babyzone gives families like ours the chance to get out, have fun and feel supported. It’s something parents need too, it’s not just for the kids. Being able to talk to friends and other mums is so important.”

Megan Watts Head of Babyzone Grimsby spoke at the opening and said:

“Babyzone has been created to provide a warm, welcoming space where everyone has a place. We want our families to be able to come here, focus on having fun, and connect with their little ones – we know these moments matter.

We hope families enjoy the classes, exploring the activities on offer and meeting other parents and carers along the way.”

Ann-Marie Matson, Director of Children’s Services who also attended the opening said:

“This new space is already so very special, a free space for all parents and carers that is a safe space to meet up, ask questions and make friends whilst there little ones play and learn.

The first few years of a child’s life lay the foundation for everything that follows. They are learning to communicate, to explore the world around them and learning to build relationships with others.

That’s why Babyzone is so important, whether you are seeking advice, looking for friendship or wanting a place to watch your child play and grow. Everyone is welcome.”
