North East Lincolnshire Council have joined a growing number of local organisations committed to supporting the current and future health and social care workforce by signing up to the People and Skills Pledge.

The Pledge is an initiative that unites health and social care organisations with a shared goal of recruiting a workforce with the necessary values and behaviours sought by the sector. Organisations signing the Pledge are committing to a number of tangible actions including ‘Growing their own’ by supporting work experience placements, Investing in the Workforce via upskilling and training and Inspiring the future workforce by mentoring students and attending recruitment events.

In a joint statement, Cllr Stan Shreeve, Cabinet member for Adult Health and Wellbeing, and Cllr Stephen Harness, Cabinet member for Finance, Resources and Assets, said:
“We have a growing economy in North East Lincolnshire and providing training for the jobs for local people has to be one of our priorities. We’re really pleased to be supporting this pledge today and in the future for our staff, and in particular for the young adults who leave our care system. For many years the council has had a policy to grow our own, developing staff who want to take the next step in their careers. In the wider economy, we pledge to continue that work and support our health care partners to promote opportunities and inspire the next generation.”

Sharon Stead, HCP Programme Lead (Workforce and Innovation) said;
“The NELC commitment to the HCP People and Skills Pledge is a prime example of how an employer can embrace programmes that support the health and social care sector to create a competent and skilled workforce. Furthermore, this robust partnership is enabling the sector to widen recruitment participation for young people such as via the HCP Care Leaver Employability Programme, which is soon to launch in November. The HCP Widening Participation Programmes provide paid and unpaid work experience opportunities to inspire young people who are not in employment, education or training to choose a career within the health and social care sector.
