Residents are being advised of upcoming drainage maintenance works in and around the villages of Ashby Cum Fenby and Brigsley later this month.

The works are scheduled to begin during the week commencing Monday 30 March and are expected to be completed within the same week.

Due to the narrow width of the rural roads, temporary road closures will be required while the work takes place. Diversions will be in place during working hours, and access to properties within the works area will be maintained throughout.

Road closures and diversions will be in place between 8.30am and 4.30pm each day.
The roads will reopen overnight to help minimise disruption for residents and motorists.

Phase 1 – Thoroughfare, Ashby Cum Fenby

The first phase of works will take place on Thoroughfare, from the Main Road junction to the borough boundary.

Maintenance will include cleaning roadside drainage ditches and cleansing highway gullies.

During this phase, traffic will be diverted via Waithe Lane in Brigsley.

Phase 2 – Waithe Lane, Brigsley

Once the first phase is completed, expected around Wednesday 1 April, work will move to Waithe Lane, from the junction with Church Lane to the end of the village.

This phase will involve jetting highway drainage pipework, cleaning roadside ditches and recutting drainage grips in the verges.

Traffic will be diverted via Thoroughfare in Ashby Cum Fenby while this work is carried out.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, Portfolio Holder for housing, infrastructure and transport said: “Maintaining and improving our drainage network is vital in rural areas like Ashby Cum Fenby and Brigsley to help reduce the risk of flooding and keep our roads in good condition.

“We understand that road closures can be inconvenient, but these works are necessary to ensure the drainage system continues to function properly. By carrying them out during daytime hours and reopening the roads overnight, we are hoping to keep disruption to a minimum while completing this important maintenance.”

Residents and motorists are thanked in advance for their patience while the essential maintenance is completed.
