You can now get advice and demonstrations from various professionals at the 7 Family Hubs in North East Lincolnshire.

After receiving training, some members of the infant feeding team and the perinatal and infant mental health specialist health visitor can now offer support to new parents on how to safely carry your baby in a sling. The team are on hand to trouble shoot parents who may be struggling and also offer a welcoming environment to explore different sling carrying options.

Sling carrying is encouraged for caregivers for a variety of reasons and can promote close bonding, assist with breast feeding, can reduce parental anxiety and allows you to get on with daily tasks ‘hands-free,’ amongst other benefits.

Clare, a new mum from Immingham attends the drop-in groups and said:

“The team are very nice and helpful. I go as often as I can and it’s nice to be around other mums, it’s a really welcoming environment. I’ve used it for breast feeding help and they also helped me ensure I was using the sling properly. I have 4 other children so it’s much more convenient to be hands-free and to be able to get up and go without packing up the whole pram. It’s nice to hear someone telling you are doing it right and not wrong.”

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio Holder for Children and Education said: “I’d encourage any new parent to attend our drop-in sessions at the Family Hub’s across the borough.

The infant feeding team are on hand to help with any questions you may have about adjusting to life with a new-born baby and offer a friendly and welcoming environment for all parents.”
