Working for North East Lincolnshire Council

North East Lincolnshire is a great place to work and there are lots of benefits our employees can access.

Flexibility

A typical North East Lincolnshire Council position will mean a full time working week of 37 hours, but there are part time and job share opportunities available too.

Types of flexible working in local government:

  • flexible working hours
  • term time working
  • compressed working week
  • career breaks
  • option to buy extra annual leave

Annual leave in local government remains competitive and increases depending on the grade of the post and length of service. You will also receive the eight statutory holidays a year.

Balance your work and home life

We acknowledge that all employees need to balance their work commitments with home life and that finding that balance can be difficult at times. We have several policies that enhance the work-life relationship such as:

  • flexible working hours
  • family leave policy
  • maternity and paternity leave
  • adoption leave

Diversity

As well as the huge diversity of work, there are people from many different backgrounds working in local government. Local government values the contribution different people make and recognise that the strength of an organisation lies in having a diverse workforce.

We support reservists in employment and offer 10 days of paid leave per year for members of non-regular forces who attend annual training. This is in addition to the normal leave entitlement.

Pensions

Depending on the type of job and terms of employment you will have access to membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme  or Teachers Pension Scheme . A limited number of jobs may have access to the NHS Pension Scheme subject to meeting the qualifying criteria.

Working with Affinity Connect, regular workshops are also available for those nearing retirement to help them plan and prepare to make the most of their retirement.

Employee discounts, savings and salary sacrifice

Employees have access to a wide range of discounts and national offers including:

  • entertainment
  • holidays and travel
  • sports and fitness
  • leisure time and days out
  • health and beauty
  • fashion and clothing
  • cars and motoring
  • financial services

A contributory health scheme cash plan is also available to help you save on the cost of dental care, optical and other services such as chiropractic, orthopaedic, chiropodist, physiotherapy and many more.

Salary sacrifice schemes allow you to give up a portion of your monthly salary in exchange for other benefits. You can make savings through reducing your tax and national insurance contributions. These include:

  • buying extra annual leave
  • discounted bikes for your commute
  • buying a new car and benefiting from tax and National Insurance savings
