Health and community organisations across North East Lincolnshire are joining forces once again for Know Your Numbers Week, bringing free blood pressure checks directly into local communities.

Working alongside partners including Thrive, Smoke Free NEL, The Stroke Association, The Health Gospel, NAViGO, Wizer, North East Lincolnshire Council Public Health and the North East Lincolnshire Health and Care Partnership, the initiative will see community “Pressure Stations” appearing across the borough throughout the week.

The campaign returns following another successful year, during which hundreds of residents took part in community blood pressure screening, helping people identify potential health risks early and access appropriate support. The innovative approach has previously received national recognition, reaching the finals of the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards for Public and Population Health Innovation.

This year’s Pressure Stations will be located in a range of trusted community settings, including the Jobcentre, Memorial Hall, the Civic Centre in Immingham, Freeman Street and a number of community venues across North East Lincolnshire. The campaign will also return to Blundell Park on Saturday 19 September during Grimsby Town’s home fixture against Crawley Town, providing supporters, staff and local residents with the opportunity to have a quick and simple check.

The approach is simple: rather than expecting people to attend healthcare settings, partners bring health checks directly into communities. This community-first model has been a key factor in the programme’s success, enabling teams to reach people who may not routinely engage with traditional health services. This approach was highlighted during planning discussions, where partners described “putting pressure stations in the heart of communities” and taking services directly to local people.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is one of the leading risk factors for heart attacks and strokes. Often there are no symptoms, which is why regular checks are so important.

A blood pressure check is quick, painless and takes just a few minutes. It could provide vital information about your health and help you access support at an early stage if needed.

Residents are encouraged to look out for Pressure Stations in their local community and take the opportunity to find out their numbers.

No Pressure – It’s Just a Quick Check.
