Allotments
Interested in an allotment plot?
To make an initial enquiry for an allotment plot please complete our online allotment enquiry form: Allotments
Please note you must live within the North East Lincolnshire Borough Boundary unless the Council consents otherwise.
If you need further information you can email [email protected] or phone 01472 326289, option 3 and then option 4.
We will send you information about your chosen allotment site or the one nearest to you. You can then arrange with the site representative to view the available plots before formally applying. If all the plots are currently occupied you can add your name to the waiting list for that site and we will contact you when one becomes available, or you can choose another site.
We will usually contact you within 10 working days of your initial enquiry.
Pay allotment charges
If you have outstanding charges for your allotment plot then you can make an online payment (under Council invoices).
Cost of allotment plots
A standard plot measures 0.25 roods (approximately 250 square metres). This can vary at sites and costs are reflected accordingly.
Water is metered at each site and the charge distributed between all tenanted plots on that site.
The annual cost for 2026 (inclusive of water and rent) for a standard 0.25 rood plot is:
- Carr Lane £117.89
- Littlecoates £135.38
- Peaksfield £131.24
- Saltings £148.84
- Springfield £138.44
- Weelsby £127.30
- Winchester £126.31
If you qualify for a concession the charge is reduced.
Tenancies run from 1 January to 31 December. This is a fixed annual cost irrespective of start date during the year i.e. if you take a plot in June you will be invoiced again in January.
Tenants are entitled to a plot at the reduced rate if they are over 60 years of age, have been unemployed for more than 12 months, are registered as disabled or in receipt of invalidity benefit, or are a full time student. Other circumstances may be considered.
If you have been unemployed for at least 12 months please print and return the Allotment plot holder’s confirmation of employment form status (PDF, 164KB) . It must be signed at the Jobcentre Plus office.

This process can take up to 4 weeks. Do not put animals on your plot until you have received written permission to proceed.
The Animal Welfare Act 2006 ensures animals are treated humanely. Anyone who is cruel, neglects, or fails to meet an animal’s welfare needs may face a ban on ownership, a fine of up to £20,000, or imprisonment. If the Council believes a tenant is not meeting the welfare needs of animals on their allotment, it may end the tenancy and report the matter to the RSPCA.
An allotment pond can be a wonderful addition to your plot and a great way to contribute to the well-being of wildlife. There are certain conditions to check, please read the Pond conditions (PDF, 79KB) .
To apply to add a pond to your plot please complete our online form: Allotments
If you’d like to install CCTV on your allotment plot, please let us know first by filling out by completing the notice to install CCTV on your plot form.
By installing CCTV, you become responsible for how personal data is collected and used. This means you must follow data protection laws and handle any complaints that may arise.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Know your responsibilities: Visit the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) website for guidance and information about home CCTV systems and data protection.
- Have a clear reason: CCTV should be used for legitimate purposes like preventing theft, vandalism, or fly-tipping.
- Be transparent: Put up signs to let people know they’re being recorded.
- Keep it focused: Your cameras should only cover your own plot—not neighbouring plots, communal areas, or public spaces.
- Limit recording: Use motion detection if possible, and avoid sound recording unless absolutely necessary. You’ll need to carry out a Data Protection Impact Assessment if your CCTV is likely to be a risk to other people.
- Store footage securely: Make sure only authorised people can access it.
- Delete footage when it’s no longer needed: Usually within 7–14 days unless there’s an incident.
- Respond to requests: People can ask to see footage of themselves or request it be deleted. You must respond within one month.
We recommend speaking to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) or getting professional advice before installing CCTV.
Report repairs and maintenance on the allotments
Report it to the Facilities Management Service Desk on 01472 324646, option 3 then option 4. You will be asked for details of the damage or fault and its location. We will then have this looked at and action taken to resolve the problem.
You will be provided with a reference number for your job which you can use to track the progress.
Helpers on allotment plots
Plot holders may register friends or family members as helpers. Please apply online to register a plot helper using our Allotments form.
An ID card will be sent to the tenant to issue to their helper. Helpers are not permitted on the allotment until they have received the ID card. Anyone who is not a tenant or registered helper is not permitted on any allotment site.
The helper must abide by the allotment rules. If they are found to have broken these rules, the registered tenant of the plot will be held responsible for the behaviour under their Tenancy Agreement. In serious cases this can result in formal termination of tenancy. The issuing of the helpers card and the granting of permission to access the plot does not constitute the formation of a legally binding Tenancy Agreement.
Lost allotment gate keys
If you have lost your keys, visit the Allotment office within Alexandra Dock Business Centre where a replacement key will be issued. A deposit of £10 and proof of allotment tenancy are required. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 12:30pm and 1pm to 4:30pm.
