A public memorial service is to be held later this month to commemorate the life of former local Councillor and two-time Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Norma Lincoln.

Norma sadly passed away in May this year at the age of 89, remembered by her husband, Malcolm.

The service, which will include local dignitaries, members of Norma’s family, and members of the public, will take place on Wednesday 20 September 2023 from 2pm.

Norma was elected to Great Grimsby Borough Council in 1994, and then an elected Member of North East Lincolnshire Council from its inception in 1996 until 2015.

She was twice Mayor of North East Lincolnshire Council in 2001/02 and 2010/11.

She was granted Honorary Alderman status in July 2015 in recognition of her eminent service to the council as a past Member.

The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Ian Lindley, praised Norma as an ‘iconic local stateswoman.’

Cllr Lindley said:

“Norma had an energy and a passion for the local area that is very inspiring. She always had so much time for people, regardless of who they were or where they were from.

“Her achievements in the local area are well-known, and she is quite rightly seen as an iconic local stateswoman.

“I know that her loss was felt by many in our local communities, and its right that we mark her life and her passing in the proper way, with the support of Norma’s family.

“I encourage anyone who knew Norma to come along to the service and to join us in reflecting on Norma’s achievements and the impact that she had on North East Lincolnshire.”

Members of the public are welcome to attend the Memorial Service, which will take place on Wednesday 20 September 2023 from 2pm at Grimsby Minster
