From coffees that pack a punch, to hot chocolates that customers crave – a new cafe in the Innovation Centre on the Europarc is going down a treat for Marie Rodger-Goodwin.

The Grind promises a refreshing addition to the business centre, owned by North East Lincolnshire Council. Food includes deli-style meats and homemade sausage rolls.

It complements the existing Fresco cafe at the nearby Humber Seafood Institute.

Marie spotted the opportunity back in October, and quickly went for it to realise a lifelong dream of owning a cafe. She officially opened the cafe last month.

“This was just too good to miss, and I’ve been on the lookout for something for a while,” says Marie. “When I first walked in, it was a total blank canvas, so I felt like I could make it my own – something unique for people.

“Take a break from the office or pop to the Innovation Centre to sample what’s on offer – I’m welcoming everyone to pop in and give us a try. Already, I’ve seen the reviews about my orange hot chocolate, so I’m hoping that will be a thing that attracts people especially over these winter months.

“I came up with the design and seating area myself and spent quite a while perfecting it – I’m almost happy with it but I will constantly improve it and listen to my customers’ feedback.”

As well as a place to kick back and relax, The Grindwill also play host to special events such as quizzes, taster sessions, and much more. “This is such an exciting time for all of us – and I want people all over the town to have a try,” says Marie.

Councillor Stan Shreeve, portfolio holder for finance, resources and assets, said: “It is great to see a new local independent business thriving in its first weeks of opening. This is fantastic news for the Innovation Centre as it welcomes what is proving to be a rather popular cafe. Get yourselves down there and try out some of the tasty treats.”

The Grind is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3pm.

A special Sunday Festive Menu is now available throughout December.
