General

North East Lincolnshire residents are being encouraged to check whether they could automatically receive £150 off their electricity bills this winter through the Government’s Warm Home Discount scheme.

The Government has confirmed details of the scheme, which will support millions of households across England and Wales with the cost of energy bills during the colder months.

Every household where the electricity bill payer receives certain means-tested benefits could be eligible for the £150 discount.

Eligible benefits include:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit

To help ensure the discount is applied automatically, residents should make sure the person receiving the eligible benefit is named on their electricity bill.

Households are being advised to check and update their details before Sunday 23 August, as suppliers will use customer records from that date to determine eligibility.

Debra Fox, Home Energy Efficiency Officer at North East Lincolnshire Council said: “With energy costs continuing to be a concern for many households, we want to make sure residents are aware of the support that may be available to them. If you receive one of the qualifying benefits, it’s important to check that you’re named on your electricity account, so you don’t miss out on this £150 discount.”

The North East Lincolnshire Home Energy Team can provide free advice and guidance on current home energy schemes, benefits and home energy efficiency improvements, helping residents access the support available to them.

If you would like more information about the Warm Home Discount or wider energy-saving support, please contact the North East Lincolnshire Home Energy Team on 01472 326296 (option 5) or email energy@nelincs.gov.uk
