Allotments

Residents interested in improving their health and wellbeing, meeting like-minded people and growing their own fruit and vegetables are invited to attend a second drop-in event at Carr Lane Allotments (Beeley Road entrance) on Wednesday 23 September, between 9.30am and 11.30am. If you are unsure on this location, please use what 3 words ///wants.fleet.behind.

The event will give visitors the opportunity to view a selection of vacant allotment plots, explore underutilised spaces known as ‘challenge plots’, find out more about becoming an allotment holder and speak directly with staff about the application process.

Challenge plots require more work to bring them back into cultivation but offer an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic gardeners looking for a space to develop.

Anyone taking on a standard allotment plot will not pay any rent for the remainder of 2026. Those interested in a challenge plot will receive free tenancy until 2028.

Why take up an allotment plot?

North East Lincolnshire Council manage seven allotment sites across the borough, these sites provide around 1,100 allotment plots. Our allotments offer affordable access to green space, help support local wildlife and biodiversity, and provide a welcoming community for people of all ages. The seven sites are:

  • Carr Lane Allotments, Cleethorpes – entrance off Lestrange Street and Beeley Road
  • Littlecoates Allotments, Grimsby – entrance off Lister Street
  • Peaksfield Allotments, Grimsby – entrance off Weelsby Avenue
  • Saltings Allotments, Grimsby – entrance off Littlefield Lane
  • Springfield Allotments, Scartho – entrance off Springfield Road
  • Weelsby Allotments, Grimsby – entrance off Garton Grove
  • Winchester Allotments, Grimsby – entrance off Laceby Road

Allotments offer a rewarding way to enjoy the outdoors while also seeing financial benefits of producing fresh, homegrown fruit, vegetables. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or a complete beginner, having an allotment can provide a relaxing space to learn new skills, stay active and enjoy nature throughout the seasons.

Allotments can become a place to unwind, connect with nature and meet like-minded people within the local community. Gardening is also recognised for its positive impact on health and wellbeing, helping to reduce stress, boost your immune system and stay active whilst spending more time in the fresh air.

Cllr Simon Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Finance, Resources and Assets adds: “Allotments give people of all ages the chance to enjoy nature, learn new skills and grow fresh, healthy food. They are a valuable community asset that supports wellbeing and helps families spend quality time together. I would encourage anyone interested to come along to the drop-in event and find out more about the opportunities available.”
