With the Easter holidays upon us, Cleethorpes is gearing up for a busy start to the season. As thousands of visitors are expected to enjoy the beach, promenade and coastal attractions, North East Lincolnshire Council and the Cleethorpes Resort Management Team are urging everyone to follow key safety guidance to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.

Beach & Coastal Safety

Cleethorpes’ unique tidal range and fast‑moving waters mean conditions can change quickly. Visitors are asked to stay alert and follow safety signage at all times.

Sandbanks

  • If in doubt, don’t go out.
  • Always return to the main beach five hours before high tide to avoid becoming cut off.
  • If cut off by the tide, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.
  • Daily tide times are available at the Resort Hub opposite the Pier.

Mud Areas

  • Look out for mud warning signs in known risk areas.
  • If you encounter sinking mud: STOP, turn around and retrace your steps.
  • If stuck, stay calm and avoid struggling, as this can make sinking worse.
  • For emergencies, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Protecting Our Wildlife

Cleethorpes is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), supporting hundreds of thousands of wading birds, rare plant species and marine wildlife.
Visitors are reminded to:

  • Keep a respectful distance from wildlife.
  • Avoid disturbing birds and animals in their natural habitat.
  • Keep dogs under control/ on leads
  • Report any wildlife concerns to the Resort Management Team on 01472 323356.

Help and Advice on the Seafront

The Resort Team Hub (opposite the Pier) is open 9am–6pm daily, providing:

  • Beach safety advice
  • Support for missing children or vulnerable people
  • First aid
  • Tourist information

Water Safety

  • Only swim within the yellow marker buoys.
  • Red marker buoys are for motorised craft only.
  • Always check tide times before entering the water.

Keeping Cleethorpes Clean

Residents and visitors are encouraged to help keep the resort looking its best:

  • Leave only footprints.
  • Dispose of litter responsibly or take it home.
  • Keep beaches, parks and streets clean for everyone to enjoy.

Dog Owners

Seasonal restrictions apply from Good Friday to 30 September:

  • Dogs are not permitted on the main beach between North Prom and the Leisure Centre.
  • Keep dogs under close control, particularly near roosting birds.
  • Please pick up after your dog and use the bins provided.
