School Streets
School streets update
From Monday 7 November School Street Marshals are attending each of the trial schools to hand out information to residents, parents and guardians about the School Streets project.
It is currently anticipated that the School Streets project will go fully live from Monday 5 December. After this date vehicles which are not exempt will not be permitted access into the School Streets zones during the stated operational hours.
School Streets is a national initiative funded by the Department for Transport (DfT).
A School Street is a road outside a school with a temporary restriction on motorised traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times. The restriction applies to school traffic and through traffic. The result is a safer, healthier, and pleasant environment for everyone.
School Streets schemes offer a proactive solution for school communities to tackle air pollution, poor health and road danger reduction. They will encourage a healthier lifestyle and active travel to school for families and lead to a better environment for everyone.
All households in the zones should now have received a letter and 2 permits. If you haven’t or think you need a trial permit, please contact us by email at [email protected]. Additional permits may be requested, however as we are still in the trial period there are restrictions on the permits being issued. This may change following the trial.
Further information on the national initiative can be found on the School Streets website.
