Two storms, named Dudley and Eunice are due to hit North East Lincolnshire and the rest of the Humber area in the next few days, starting today.
Storm Dudley: The Met Office has issued both an amber and a yellow warning for this storm, covering the North of England and Scotland. For our area, gusts of between 60 and 70mph are being predicted. The storm will arrive today, (Wednesday), and it’s anticipated that the winds are expected to ease through Thursday afternoon and evening before the arrival of a second front (Storm Eunice).
Storm Eunice: The next low-pressure system is likely to track across central areas of the UK on Friday. Further impacts are expected from disruptive gale force winds with 60–70 mph winds expected inland. This system is also expected to bring some heavy rain and there is a potential for some significant snow fall over hills in the Midlands and further north.
Residents are being urged to lock shed doors and secure garden furniture. Trampolines are susceptible to strong winds and should be turned upside down or secured with tent pegs or metal hoops. Wheelie bins should be secured, if possible, against the side of the property and taken in from the roadside immediately after collection.
Meanwhile, businesses should secure ‘street furniture’ including tables, chairs and either secure or bring signage at the front of stores inside (this includes ‘A’ frame freestanding signage and flags).

Driving in high wind

General advice:
- Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, and some roads and bridges are likely to close, leading to longer journey times and cancellations.
- There is likely to be some fallen trees and damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
- There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- Injuries and danger to life could result from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties
- Motorists have been warned to consider whether journeys later this week are absolutely necessary.
