More than 500 households in North East Lincolnshire could now benefit from additional support to help manage the rising cost of oil‑fuelled heating.
The price of kerosene, the fuel used for domestic heating oil, has risen significantly in recent weeks, driven by ongoing conflict in the Middle East. As a result, kerosene is currently costing around twice as much as crude oil.
Unlike gas and electricity customers, households that rely on heating oil are not protected by the national energy price cap, leaving them more vulnerable to sudden price increases.
To help low‑income households manage these pressures, North East Lincolnshire Council has allocated funding for a one‑off financial payment for those in need. A letter will be going out to households affected in the coming days and weeks explaining how to apply.
Alternatively, eligible residents can apply here: www.connectnel.com/services/support-for-low-income-households-using-heating-oil/
The deadline for applications is 30 April 2026.
After this date, residents experiencing financial hardship will be able to apply for a Crisis Payment through the new Crisis and Resilience Fund. The new fund will take a person-centred approach to payments whilst also connecting people to wider advice and guidance. Crisis payments will be application-based and the fund will run from 1 April 2026 until 31 March 2029.
