Passengers using the new and improved 3 and 4 bus route have shared how happy they are with the recent service changes.

A raft of new changes came into effect on Sunday 21st July, funded by the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) from His Majesty’s Government. They were designed to enhance frequency and reliability, whilst improving connections, for bus passengers. The changes were funded by the Bus Service Improvement Plan

The changes included the new 11 service, which will help support residents of Bradley gain greater access to the borough, as well as improved frequency to the 3 and 4.

Instead of every 15 minutes, the two popular services now run up to every 10 minutes. In addition, there is a journey during early mornings and evenings to facilitate commuting from Laceby to Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

Speaking about the changes to the 3 and 4, a number of passengers are thrilled by the improvements.

Janet Smith, originally from Lincolnshire, now lives abroad, but comes back a number of times a year and was impressed by the recent improvements.

“I use the bus to get around when I come to visit so I can see my friends. I think it’s great that you can just get on a bus and go anywhere effectively. Not having to change makes it very useful for me too.

“The new frequency is wonderful, knowing that I can get to and from anywhere whilst I’m in the area. It’s a great idea, especially during the busy periods.

“A few extra buses will make a big difference to people who use them to get about.” Also impressed was Laura Gale who relies on the buses to get her daughter to and from school.

“I use this bus very often, during school times, I’m on it every day. The new frequency is really helpful for me personally as it means that even if I’m running a few minutes late I know it won’t have a massive impact on my day as there will soon be another bus.

“It certainly takes the pressure off me on the school run.” For others, the service is essential for getting them home from work.

Tracy Atkinson works in the town centre and relies on the buses to get her home. “Having one every 10 minutes is useful for me as if I finish a little late and miss one, I know there’ll be another coming quite soon.

“I use the service around three times a week so I will find the changes very beneficial.”

For others, the buses are their only way of getting around. Christine and Peter Hewson use the buses three to four times a week and couldn’t get out and about if it wasn’t for these services.

Christine said: “The changes are great for us two. You can tell they’re more frequent now which means we can easily get anywhere in the borough.

“It’s certainly a good reason for us to continue using the buses and allowing us to keep doing what we enjoy.”

Dave Skepper, Commercial Director for Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “We’re pleased to hear local people are finding it easier to get around Grimsby and Cleethorpes now our buses run more frequently. Using the bus for short journeys around town helps to reduce traffic congestion and improves air quality. It’s also convenient and great value for money.”

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Infrastructure and Transport, said: “It’s great to hear such positive messages from the residents who use the buses.

“The changes Stagecoach and ourselves make are to benefit them and improve their day to day life. The increased frequency gives people more opportunity to travel across the borough and visit places such as Grimsby town centre with the recently refurbished Riverhead or take a trip to Cleethorpes.”
