This week North East Lincolnshire Council worked in collaboration with Humberside Police, which has resulted in a large unauthorised encampment leaving the area of Weelsby Woods in Grimsby, four days after arrival.
A clear up team from the Council is now on site to remove a small amount of waste that has been left behind and repair the damaged barriers where the group gained access to the land.
Cllr Oliver Freeston, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is a great piece of joint working with our local police force and a good outcome for our community. This is a strong message that North East Lincolnshire is not the place for illegal encampments, and we have the working arrangements in place to deal with these quickly.”
Cllr James Sawkins, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger, said: “We have been able to work with the police to assess the situation, and decide quickly what action would be reasonable and necessary to resolve this. Weelsby Woods is a lovely space, intended for public use, and we will continue to take any action necessary to protect the area.”
