A new café in Grimsby is thrilled to be in the town centre and have been overwhelmed by the support from customers.
Café Victoria has opened its doors on Victoria Street, opposite the Post Office – serving up a range of drinks and food.
Already, they have regular customers and are glad to be bring an independent café to the centre of Grimsby.
Owner Serhat Erdogan has been blown away by the response and believes things can only get better.
He said: “I’ve always been in this trade and wanted to open my own business and thought a café like ours was something the area needed.
“Since we opened the doors, it’s been so busy. We’ve had a great response which shows that people want something like this in the town centre.”
Serhat and the team faced criticism before opening but are confident they’ve shown people that there is certainly cause for positivity.
“A lot of people said we would be closed soon after we opened, but we’ve proved them wrong. We could not be busier if we tried and knowing that it’s been a success has been a great relief.
“Events around the town have also really helped us – the farmer and craft markets have been a huge success and brought us a lot of customers.”
Looking to the future, the team feel the Freshney Place regeneration scheme will only improve their business. “When the cinema and everything is open, we’ve no doubt it’ll bring more people into the town centre and our café.
“We think it’s a great idea.”
Since opening, the café has had visitors from all-around North East Lincolnshire and even as far as Sheffield and Hull.
“We hope bringing new people into the town centre can help improve it and going forward we would love to build on what we’ve created already.
“It’s completely exceeded our expectations – all the positivity has been lovely to see.”
Regular customers Steven and Angie Done were blown away by the café and have been coming back ever since.
Steven said: “We’ve been here a few times and really like it here. The food is nice, the staff are friendly and it’s just an all-round lovely atmosphere.
“It’s a brilliant addition to the town centre.”
The Freshney Place Leisure Scheme is a major scale project that is reimagining Grimsby town centre. With a new five screen cinema, operated by local business Parkway, a new market and a range of leisure facilities, this project is breathing new life into the heart of North East Lincolnshire.
