Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority Mayoral Election


On 1 May 2025, residents of the Greater Lincolnshire area will be able to vote for the first Mayor of the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority (GLCCA).

Every eligible voter in the area covered by the GLCCA will be able to vote for the Mayor, including all eligible voters in North East Lincolnshire.

Candidate information

A booklet with information about how to vote and the candidates standing for the post of Mayor is now available to download. As is required by law, a copy of this will be sent to every eligible elector in the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority area.

Frequently asked questions

This is a legal requirement for Combined County Authority elections. According to the Combined Authorities (Mayoral Election) Order 2017 (hereafter shortened to CAM Order) the Combined County Authority Returning Officer for the election must produce a booklet with the election addresses of all candidates who have contributed to the cost of production and submitted a valid election address by the close of nominations (i.e. by 4pm on the nineteenth working day before the poll).

One booklet is required to be sent out to every eligible elector in the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority area. For this election, the number of eligible voters on 1 March 2025 was 826,650.

This is to make sure that those voting by post have access to the booklet before they vote. With postal votes being sent out prior to polling day the booklets need sending to these electors first.

All registered electors should receive a booklet before the election. The deadline to register to vote for the upcoming election is midnight on 11 April 2025. It takes just five minutes to apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.

You can also request a copy of the booklet by contacting your Local Authority.

Candidates who appear in the booklet have contributed to the cost of printing and producing the booklet (£3,500 each). The contribution is the same for each candidate. Every candidate has had the same opportunity to pay to have an address in the booklet.

The remaining cost for the printing and distribution (including postage cost) of the booklet is paid for by the Combined County Authority.

It is a legal requirement to print and deliver one copy of the booklet to every eligible voter. We are currently awaiting the final bill from the print company to be able to provide this information.

Yes. Candidates who appear in the booklet have contributed £3500 to the cost of printing the booklet. The contribution is the same for each candidate.

As is normal in elections, all candidates will be listed by alphabetical order of their surnames on the ballot paper.

How to vote

You must be registered to vote

You will receive a poll card before the election. You can vote in person and attend a polling station.

If you require a Postal Vote for the election on 1 May 2025, the application must be received by the elections team no later than Monday 14 April 2025 at 5pm.

Proxy vote application forms must be received by the election office by no later 5pm on Wednesday 23 April 2025.  Please note that if you currently have a postal vote and would prefer a proxy vote instead, your postal vote must be cancelled before 14 April 2025 at 5pm.  Your proxy voter must be on the electoral register, able to vote in these elections and will be required to cast your vote at your normal polling station.

If you wish to vote in a polling station you will require Voter ID. Visit ways to vote to look at a list of identification documents you can bring.

Voter Authority Certificates applications must be received by the elections office by no later than 5pm on the 23 April 2025. Please note that if your application is received after this time, it will not be processed until Tuesday 6 May 2025. If you have received confirmation for a Voter Authority Certificate before 5pm 23 April 2025 but have not received your certificate by election day, please contact the office on 01472 324160.

Count

The verification and count of ballot papers will take place from 10pm on Thursday 1 May 2025 within the local authority boundaries in which the votes were cast. In North East Lincolnshire, the verification and count of ballot papers will take place in Grimsby Town Hall.

Declaration of results

The results of votes from electors in each local authority in the GLCCA will be combined. The candidate with the most votes will win. This is called the “first past the post” voting system.

The final result will be announced at Grimsby Town Hall.

The result of the election is expected to be declared on Friday 2 May and will be available from the www.greaterlincolnshire-cca.gov.uk website.
