North East Lincolnshire Council’s school nursing team have set up community clinics to issue flu vaccines to primary schools and year 7 pupils in secondary schools in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Usually the influenza vaccine, which is given to primary school children and pupils in year 7 in the form of a nasal spray, is issued in school. However, with the pandemic forcing schools to close once again the team have re-established the successful community clinics used during the first wave of the pandemic.

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adult social care, said: “Each year students in our area receive vaccines during school time to protect them against all sorts of nasty viruses.

“Obviously the school closures mean that we cannot administer these vaccines in the same way, so we’re instead providing these community clinics.

“Because the immunisation programme is an important public health appointment, people are allowed to leave their homes during the national lockdown to get their child vaccinated.”

If your child has missed their flu vaccine, you can book an appointment at one of the new community clinics by visiting www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/school-nurse-and-health-visitor-service-30526071118.
