Temporary backlog of grey bin collections across North East Lincolnshire

2:50 pm, Thursday, 11th June 2026 - 27 minutes ago

Bins, waste and recycling

The council regret to inform residents that there will be a disruption to mixed glass bottles and jars, aluminium food and drink cans, and plastic recycling from the grey bins over the coming days due to staffing issues.

At this time, all other bins (blue, green and brown) will continue to be collected. The Council is asking residents to put out their grey bins as normal and they will be collected at the earliest opportunity.

Street Cleansing Teams and other services are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible by approaching various organisations to recruit more temporary staff – including other neighbouring local authorities – to help ensure the impact on residents is kept to a minimum. Over the coming days, teams will also be working extended hours to try and reduce the backlog.

Councillor Bob Callison, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Energy Security, said: “I am a resident of North East Lincolnshire so can understand people’s frustration with this news. Sadly, this is not something that could have been avoided and we are now working hard to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

“Again, I would like to stress that we do understand how frustrating this can be for residents and we thank you all for your cooperation going forward. As soon as we have an update we will inform you all.”

He added: “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff in our waste services who are working extremely hard at this time to fix the issue.”

The Waste Team are continuing to look at all other options to help reduce the impact on residents and are working hard to ensure as much waste as possible continues to be collected.

Deliveries of new or replacement bins are also continuing at this time.

Key points

  • Grey bin recycling has been disrupted due to unforeseen staffing issues
  • All other waste continues to be collected at this time
  • Put your grey bin out as scheduled and it will be collected at the earliest opportunity

Advice to residents

  • If possible, take your excess grey bin recycling to the tip (see link below for directions and locations) where it can continue to be recycled
  • Store clean, dry grey recycling in your home until your grey bin is collected
  • Place your excess grey bin recycling in your green household waste bin until normal collection schedule resume- Any waste from the green bins is used to generate electricity at the energy from waste plant.
  •  To make sure excess waste is kept to a minimum, residents are asked to squash recycling before putting it in the bin
