A couple visiting Cleethorpes were blown away during their visit to the seaside resort.
Regeneration, the state of the roads and the parking charges were all positives to James Lawton and Francesca Lee from Cherry Willingham. Visiting over Armed Forces Weekend, the couple had been working their way down the East Coast taking in the sights before reaching Cleethorpes.
Parked up on the front with chairs at the ready, the pair spent the day watching the world go by whilst taking in the delights the area has to offer.
For both, the Pier Gardens regeneration works were something they both felt was a real positive.
“You can really see how much work the Council are doing to try and improve the area,” said James.
“They’re creating what I’m sure will be a brilliant town centre and we don’t mind paying for things like parking if you know there is investment happening in the area. It’s also relatively cheap compared to other coastal areas we visit and the roads are so much nicer to drive on here – everything is just how you’d want it when you’re visiting somewhere.”
“Last year we came the RNLI building was being built and it’s nice to come back and see it complete. We keep coming back to Cleethorpes because we know there is also something being added to it.
“We’ve coming for about 10 years now and every year it just gets better and better.”
James and his wife also believe the positive impact of regeneration is more than just what is built – there are plenty of positives for the community too.
“The works in Pier Gardens are brilliant and I think they’ll do more for the area like reducing Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).
“Alongside the work in Grimsby, it’s really bringing the borough together. Kids will have more places to go and it will just bring a new lease of life to the area.
“There is so much to do for people here already – so this can only help build on what Cleethorpes already has. I would recommend it to anyone; it’s a relaxing place to be and is pretty impressive to say the least.”
