Looking to gain new skills, change career or progress at work? Fully funded Skills Bootcamps are giving people across North East Lincolnshire the chance to take their next step.
Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses offering at least 60 hours of training, with courses available in sectors including construction, engineering, leadership and management, digital and AI, healthcare, logistics, transport, rail, seafood and green skills.
For Grimsby resident Harry Sandall, the programme has already helped him take a step towards a new career.
Harry was unemployed and unsure about his future when his Work Coach at Grimsby Jobcentre Plus told him about Skills Bootcamps. After enrolling and beginning a course with local training provider Competum Ltd, he went on to gain qualifications including First Aid, Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheels and NRSWA Streetworks Operative.
Since then, Harry has been successful in securing full-time employment at PMC Safeside, a growing company based in Grimsby. Speaking about his experience, Harry said: “I was unemployed and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, I just know I wanted to work. I didn’t have much confidence.
“The course was brilliant. Competum gave me loads of support not only with the training but with my confidence and mental health. I was buzzing and so proud that I had passed these courses.”
Harry’s experience is just one example of the opportunities available to residents through the Skills Bootcamp programme.
Courses are being delivered here in North East Lincolnshire by providers including TEC Partnership, Construction Skills People and the University of Lincoln, with further opportunities available through providers across Greater Lincolnshire.
The programme is open to people aged 19 and over living in Greater Lincolnshire, including those who are unemployed, looking to progress in their current job or considering a career change. Depending on the course, training can be online, face-to-face or a mixture of both.
As part of the programme, providers are required to secure interview opportunities for learners, helping to create a direct route into employment.
Councillor Samuel Grice, Deputy Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council and Portfolio Holder for Education and Skills, said: “Skills Bootcamps are about giving people the opportunity to learn new skills and improve their chances of getting into work or progressing their career. Harry’s story shows what can happen when someone is given the right support, from starting the course unsure about his future and coming out with new qualifications, greater confidence and a full-time job. That is exactly the kind of outcome we want to see for local people.
“There are a wide range of courses available this year, so I would encourage anyone thinking about a career change, looking to improve their skills or wanting to get into work to see what opportunities are available. It could be the first step towards something new.”

Skills Bootcamps are fully funded for learners through the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority. Employers sending their own staff onto courses need to pay a 10% (SMEs) or 30% (large) contribution based on the size of the business.
