Getting around town isn’t always easy if you don’t have a car or struggle walking.
A cheaper, accessible way to get out and about is the Phone ’n’ Ride service. Sharing the journey with friends and others who are on the way to the town centre or doctors can also be a great way to socialise and meet new people.
Group travel also supports the efficient use of vehicles whilst helping residents access activities and services they need. Ultimately, Phone ‘n’ Ride is an on-demand bus service with no fixed route or timetable. You make the bookings and tell them where you want to go.
All vehicles are also low floor suitable for wheelchair access – electric or powered wheelchairs must be assessed first, prior to booking the first travel on the service.
Group bookings are for at least 5 or more people with the vehicles able to carry up to 14 people. Larger groups may be able to be helped using multiple vehicles but make sure to explain this to the team when booking.
Some other key points to remember when booking in a group are:
- Group bookings can be made in advance of the normal 28 day booking window, so please let the team know in plenty of time.
- One member of the group should be nominated as the ‘group leader’, they will be responsible for making the booking and notifying the service of any changes. The group leader will need to be registered with Phone ‘n’ Ride, there is no requirement for other members of the group to also be registered.
All bookings can be made via the Phone ‘n’ Ride app or giving the team a call on 01472 324440. The service runs from Monday to Saturday between 6:30am and 6:30pm (excluding bank holidays) and bookings can be made just 1 hour in advance.
Journeys must be cancelled up to 30 minutes before the journey at the latest by calling 01472 324440. Costing between £1.30 and £2 per journey per person, it is also a cheap way for anyone to get around the borough areas split into different zones. However, those with a Concessionary Bus Pass can use the service for free.
Councillor Paul Batson, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Infrastructure and Transport, said: “The Phone ‘n’ Ride service is a brilliant opportunity for residents to get about if they can’t use a car or have mobility issues.
“For less then the price of a sandwich, you can get anywhere in North East Lincolnshire and it’s a great way to get out with friends and meet new people by using the group booking service too.”
