Over 800 people came to a recent event to find new opportunities and take the next step into the world of work.
Organised by Grimsby Jobcentre Plus and held at Cleethorpes Memorial Hall, it brought together residents and employers from across North East Lincolnshire and beyond.
Now in its twelfth year, the event continues to grow, with several employers attending for the first time and others returning – all of which valued meeting potential employees face to face.
For many companies and jobseekers, the event was the perfect way to get into the world of work:
- Health company Unicorn was so impressed with candidates they met at the event that they held interviews there and had offered jobs to two people before the day had ended.
- Primark attended the Jobs Fest for the very first time and have since been progressing candidates they met on the day through their interview process.
- Mourik is working with two candidates following the event, with Grimsby Jobcentre supporting them to gain the Safety Passport qualifications they need to move into employment.
- 3 Oceans and Laing O’Rourke both ran out of application forms after being inundated with potential candidates.
The event was not just about finding jobs but also helping people build their skills and confidence.
Google, who only attend four of these events in the UK every year, delivered four workshops to 80 people exploring how artificial intelligence can be used to support their job search.
Donna England, on behalf of the Employment and Partnership team at Grimsby Jobcentre, said: “The Jobs fair was a huge success and a real team effort from everyone involved. We are passionate about creating opportunities for our customers and supporting local employers, so seeing the event so well attended was fantastic.
The success of the event has also led to plans for an additional Jobs Fair in April 2027, alongside the annual September event.
“The positive feedback from employers, partners and attendees made all the hard work worthwhile. We’re excited that there will be two Jobs Fairs next year and can’t wait to start planning them to make them just as successful, if not even more successful, than our last event,” added Donna.
Councillor Samuel Grice, Deputy Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council and Portfolio Holder for Children and Education, praised the partnership between those involved. He said: “Jobs fairs are a great way to bring local people and employers together.
“It gives people the chance to find out about different opportunities, meet employers face to face and take that next step towards getting a job.”
He added: “The response shows there is a real appetite from both employers and jobseekers to make those connections. It is especially encouraging to see people securing interviews and job offers as a direct result of attending.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the Jobcentre and our partners to help local people access good employment opportunities, while supporting businesses to find the people they need.”
