THE footpath on the Grimsby Minster side of Bethlehem Street will be closed next weekend (Friday 30 October until the evening of Sunday 1 November) to allow for essential electrical cabling to take place.

New lighting columns are being erected in St James’ Square and access is required to the main Northern Power cable, which runs directly under the section of footpath running alongside the Minster.  As a result, people will be asked to divert to the path on the opposite side of Bethlehem Street from Friday teatime until Sunday evening.

The new lighting features are to form part of the Square’s £1.8m revamp, which is progressing well and on schedule for completion early next spring.

Under the management of North East Lincolnshire Council’s regeneration partner ENGIE, contractor CR Reynolds has been leading the remodelling the whole area with the aim of creating a family-friendly public space that is safe for all to enjoy.

The main project work is being supported by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (Humber LEP) as part of the Government’s commitment to the Northern Powerhouse.

Running alongside these main works is an arts project to help introduce creativity into the Square, which lies within Grimsby’s Heritage Action Zone. This is supported by the Cultural Development Fund, (CDF), which is funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and administered by Arts Council England.
